Iron Bowl!
So, my job has brought me to the "land of college football!" We started rehearsals yesterday in Birmingham, AL, the hometown of my friend Brent Mckinney. He always talks about how big football is down here and today i unfortunatley got a taste of it.
Today at the local arena i made the mistake of asking a local guy who was working for us, something that turned out to be a "dumb" question. I asked, "so, is tommorrow the big game between Auburn and Alabama?" Wearing a Crimson Tide sweatshirt, he looked at me as if I had just asked him to solve world hunger, or if he was male or female! It could have been a simple yes or no question, but he took the oppurtunity to tell me the ENTIRE freakin' history of the two schools involved in the game, and ALL about the game itself. It was like he was an entire ESPN pre-game show all to his-self. He must have gone on for 30 minutes or so talking about the game.
I guess I had to experience the craziness first hand to sort of understand what my friend Brent (an Auburn grad) always talks about. They are football crazy down here for sure.
Maybe they just need a pro-sports team down here or something!

A pro team would definitely deflect some of the attention (much like Dallas), but I've been trying to tell you for years, Wes...
...the passion for SEC football is incomparable. It's lived and breathed for 365 days a year to where you could've gotten the entire pre-game show from ANYONE you talked to in that city.
If you wanted to get under anyone's skin, just mention that the Big 12 or Pac 10 plays a better brand of football...
...you won't get out of there alive, I promise.
Brent's got a point about SEC football even though my boys aren't doing well this year its still a big deal bigger than most football in the country
