Summer Festivals

2:00am. Just got home from work. We did our first festival of the summer. The day schedule is great: work early for about 2 hours, take off ALL day, show late. That mean I actually get to enjoy the place I'm at. However, festivals are stupid!!

Talk about your Christian "Pep-Rally!!" Not taking anything away for what they might do for some people, but for the most part they are a joke. A "camp-high" is secondary to the effect these things have on people. I mean for cryin' out loud, just go to be "entertained," and see some cool bands play some great music. Don't go expecting some earth-shattering spiritual refreshment or anything of the sort. Don't kid yourself! They are fun, but when the "speakers" get involved........it's time to check out and go get a coke or something.

I'll add more when I am awake and out of my zombie-like state! I'm so tired......none of this probably made any sense.

I don't know why speakers would be at a music festival, anyway. The Live-8 festival was wrecked with too many speakers, too...but they were trying to raise awareness. Maybe the speakers are just trying to raise awareness...but I don't really think that's the case.

Ooooooh you better believe it Steve-O! I have never heard somebody push people to their "merch area" so hard, or tell them to check out their new little "series" that they have created. The latest quirky title I heard...."Battle Plan."

*shruging at the importance of something like that*

My question is still:

When is the Christian community going to finally be ok with people just being entertainers or at least ministering in their medium by itself? Why does every event have to have a speaker to supplement the music so that it can be "impactful"? Why do most bands HAVE to engage in the age old, tired "This is why we do what we do?" I've heard it all before. The tragedy is the canned way in which we present the Gospel to make sure that at least it goes out. Seems to me that fellowship, fun and celebration as a community can be just as impactful. Ultimately God is going to do what He does on His own with or without us. Sigh..
